The Hostel Shoppe, a local bicycle shop in the Portage County Business Park, is once again holding its annual Midwest Recumbent Rally next month. This is the 20th year that they are putting on this great event filled with test rides of recumbent bikes and trikes, industry speakers, group rides, and more.
The Midwest Recumbent Rally takes place on August 9-11. All events on Friday 8/9 and Saturday 8/10 take place at the Hostel Shoppe, 3201 John Joanis Drive. On Sunday 8/11, there is a recumbent tour starting from the Jensen Center in Amherst. Registration for the event is $15 – this fee is the same whether you register in advance or upon arriving at the event. If you sign up online by July 27, you can save a few bucks on other options such as meals and T-shirts.
For Poky Pedalers who are curious at all about recumbent bicycles and tricycles, this is an outstanding opportunity to learn about and test ride all sorts of different types from various manufacturers. Test riding takes place on Saturday between 9:30 AM and 4 PM. Representatives of several recumbent manufacturers will be present to answer all your questions about these increasingly popular vehicles that are the best choice for many interested in a non-motorized way for getting from A to B.
Recumbent trikes in particular can be a good choice for those with balance issues or other physical conditions that make the more traditional upright seating position of a standard bicycle uncomfortable or painful.
We are fortunate in Stevens Point to have one of the nation’s premier recumbent dealers in our community. I encourage all Poky Pedalers to learn more about the bikes and trikes that the Hostel Shoppe offers.
