Bike ride to opening reception for “CycleLove – The Art of the Bicycle” this Friday

The Annette and Dale Schuh Riverfront Art Center (RAC) in Stevens Point has a special bicycle-themed art exhibit this month entitled CycleLove – The Art of the Bicycle. The “call for artists” I drew attention to in a previous post stated that this exhibit highlights “art about bicycles, art made from bicycles, or art about cycling culture.”

A recent Stevens Point Journal article mentions that the exhibit includes “about 60 pieces of artwork including sculptures, ceramics, glass, paintings, photography, and fiber inspired by bicycles and cycling culture.” It sounds like CycleLove has an outstanding variety on display to satisfy all art and bicycle aficionados.

Among the artwork on display is a piece created by Poky Pedaling Stevens Point. I have no illusion that my first foray into the world of fine art might convey a flair comparable to the works of the other talented artists in the exhibit. Nevertheless, I feel my artwork contributes a touch of Bike Fun, thereby enriching the ambiance inspired by this fabulous collection of bicycle-themed art.

Poky Pedalers should make particular note of the opening reception for CycleLove on Friday May 8 from 5-7 PM at RAC. This reception is free and everyone is welcome to attend. RAC is located in Pfiffner Park next to the duck pond.

The opening reception is not only an opportunity to view all the splendid bicycle-themed art, but it is also a chance to rub elbows with many of the artists who created the works on display. I understand there will be light hors d’oeuvres available to stimulate your palate while immersing yourself in bicycle-inspired creativity.

In conjunction with the opening, there is a bicycle ride to the reception this Friday. What better way to express your CycleLove than to ride your bike to the opening?

Whatever color your bike is, you should ride it to the CycleLove opening on Friday

Lovers of bicycles and art will meet at Point Area Bicycle Service (1311 Strongs Ave between Main and Clark in downtown Stevens Point) on Friday May 8 at 4:30 PM. Those who are also lovers of winning prizes should be prompt because there will be a free prize drawing among those present at 4:45 PM. After the drawing, it will be time to hop on your bicycle and follow Poky Pedaling Stevens Point on a half-mile bike ride down Main St. to the opening reception. We should arrive at RAC right around 5 PM.

Those attending the opening reception for CycleLove will definitely want to arrive in two-wheeled style. Make your plans to join the gathering of cultural devotees at Point Area Bicycle Service before bicycling en masse to RAC to admire all the delightful bicycle-themed art on display.

Bicycles and art form a wonderful melange. Throw a touch of Bike Fun into the mix and you can be certain that the opening reception will be an event Poky Pedalers won’t want to miss. Even if you cannot be part of the bike ride, make your plans to attend the opening of CycleLove at RAC this Friday evening.
