The family-friendly TGIF Dessert Ride returns this Friday evening. A casual bicycle ride along the Wisconsin River through a couple of Stevens Point’s most scenic parks will be followed by a trip to a dessert place near our starting location.

The TGIF Dessert Ride meets Friday July 24 at 7PM on the Stevens Point downtown square. If there is an event on the square that prevents us from meeting there, then we’ll meet one block north in the MSTC parking lot.

From the downtown square, we’ll take a 3-mile out-and-back bike ride to Bukolt Park on calm streets and non-motorized paths. There is a good chance that we’ll use the “goose poop” detour this Friday via Crosby and Franklin as I’ve noticed that the path by the bandshell has become more soiled recently.

The sun still sets late enough that we should have light throughout our bike ride. It might be partly cloudy in the early evening, so we may be treated to some colorful sky scenery as we ride through Bukolt Park. There is a small chance of sprinkles – whether it rains or not, we will proceed with the TGIF Dessert Ride as scheduled.

These Friday night rides are less structured than other Poky Pedals. We won’t necessarily stay in one group during the ride, as Poky Pedalers are encouraged to stop along the way to admire the scenery. Our final dessert destination will be known before we start, so that lingerers will be able to reconnect there. For those unfamiliar with the area, a map of our route will be available to allow you to find your way if you are one of those lingerers.

The TGIF Dessert Ride should appeal to Poky Pedalers from 8 to 80, as well as those younger and older. If you want more info about what to expect, you can look at this webpage.
