Bike Fun Report: August Poky Pedaling Potluck Picnic

Our final Poky Pedaling Potluck Picnic for the year took place yesterday evening. Our combination of bikes, a delightful park, picnic food, sunshine, and perfect temperatures made for a splendid evening of Bike Fun.

From Goerke Park, seven Poky Pedalers rode southeast through Iverson Park, taking the gravel Green Circle path to Patch Street. From there, we made our way over to Bush St and headed west to our mystery park destination, Morton Park.

Our mystery park destination, Morton Park, provided a wonderful setting for our Poky Pedaling Potluck Picnic

Morton Park is flanked on three sides by Patch St, Michigan Ave, and Bush St. As a result, a lot of people pass by this park frequently, but few take advantage of this pleasant spot. Its most notable feature is a baseball diamond, but there is also plenty of other space to enjoy in this Stevens Point city park.

Our ride to the park was a bit under four miles. Once we arrived there, we unpacked our goodies and enjoyed all the delicious picnic contributions. Even after we all had our fill, we lingered at the park for quite a while, relaxing on a beautiful evening in a lovely setting amid the company of Poky Pedalers.

Once we finally decided to pack up and head off, we took a different route back to our starting location. We continued west and then north to Wood St, where we briefly stopped in front of used bicycle shop Shifting Gears so that our group of Poky Pedalers could see where it is located. We then made our way westward on charming neighborhoods streets for our route back to Goerke Park. The total round trip bike ride was about 7 miles.

Although this was the final Poky Pedaling Potluck Picnic for this year, there are still several more opportunities to share Bike Fun with PPSP. Go to the Upcoming Poky Pedals webpage and the 2015 Bike Fun Calendar to learn more about the remaining Poky Pedals through September.
