Shop & Donate by Bike
meet at 12:45 PM in Bukolt Park near the skate park, ride at 1 PM
This charity-themed Poky Pedal will benefit CAP Services Family Crisis Center. This will also be Stevens Point’s 2nd-annual celebration of Bike to Shop Day, a counterpart to other Bike Month events that encourage bicycling to work and to school. This year, our Bike to Shop Day celebration will involve going shopping by bike.
Our 10-mile loop ride will take us to three shops via calm streets and non-motorized paths. We will ride in one contiguous group at our usual slow pace while obeying all traffic laws.
At each shop, you will be part of a team given a list of items to purchase. Each Poky Pedaler will contribute $5 to their team’s pooled funds at each shop. Your team’s purchases will get loaded onto the PPSP Colossal Cargo Carrier, a 5′-long flatbed bicycle trailer stacked with eight 18-gallon bins. Once all the teams have finished their shopping, we will hop back on our bikes and ride together to the next shop.
After our third shop, we will ride to CAP Services Family Crisis Center, unload, and donate everything we’ve purchased to them.
How cool is that!
I estimate we’ll return to our Bukolt Park starting location at around 4PM.
Since we’ll be visiting 3 shops, each Poky Pedaler will spend a total of $15 purchasing donation items over the course of the ride. Please bring cash, preferably three $5 bills.
Poky Pedalers are welcome to bring children, partners, or others who won’t be participating in the donation aspect of this Poky Pedal. These Poky Pedalers won’t be part of the shopping teams, but may otherwise accompany you and share our Bike Fun.
As a participation incentive, for each donating Poky Pedaler on Shop & Donate by Bike, PPSP will make an additional $1 cash donation to CAP Services Family Crisis Center, up to $100.
More information about Shop & Donate by Bike will be posted on the PPSP blog by May 5.
